This position represents the main revenue generating role within the Swagelok Energy Advisors SEA group. This position is intended as a career progression step for those associates presently acting in the role of Field Engineer, SEA. However individuals who are presently working outside the SEA group may hire directly into this position if their experience and capabilities enable them to perform the functions of the position. Candidates accepting this position are expected to commit to a minimum 3 year assignment.
The candidate will administratively report to the Director, SEA Operations but will take day-to-day assignments from the SEA Technical Manage. The candidate must accept travel levels of approximately 75% for the duration of the assignment within SEA. Travel should be largely domestic, but international travel may be an infrequent possibility.
This position will entail work environments ranging from classroom type settings where training programs are typically conducted to industrial plants where audits and project management are performed. The candidate will have frequent exposure to the Swagelok distributors and their sales teams as well as end customers. They will interface with a wide range of individuals, from senior management of our major customers to union personnel working at the operations and maintenance levels in plants.
Candidates will be expected to maintain high percentage levels of chargeability to contracts. They may frequently work independently on projects, audits or training or they may work with, and provide direction to, one or more SEA Field Engineers. They will be responsible for the top and bottom line growth of the group along with the Technical Director.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conducting a defined subset of the suite of standard steam system training programs for customers either 1 without assistance, or 2 jointly with an SEA Field Engineer under his direction. At the direction of the SEA Technical Director learn, document and conduct portions of an ever increasing number of standard training offerings. Generate new concepts for additional training programs. Accept responsibility for ensuring that SEA’s suite of standard training programs undergoes continuous improvement and remains superior to competitive offerings.
• Train distributors and salesmen on the SEA operation. Inform this group how to market and sell SEA services. Act as the SEA liaison for a set of distributors assisting them with customers calls, proposals, etc. Become proficient with the SEA Sales Toolbox which contains sales information regarding SEA services and details the working relationship between SEA and distributors.
• Become proficient at presenting SEA’s capabilities to end customers. Understand and be capable of articulating the value proposition entailed with SEA training and in-plant services.
• Draft complete audit reports at the direction of the Technical Director. Perform continuous improvement exercises on the reports in order to ensure that we are constantly improving our written communications with customers. Ensure our reports are superior to those offered by our competition.
• Perform in-plant Steam System audits and in-plant project management work either 1 without assistance, or 2 jointly with an SEA Field Engineer under his direction.
• Work with Marketing Communication group to ensure that written promotional material remains current and that website is frequently updated with additional technical information. Work with MarComm group to ensure that website continues to act as a state of the art marketing vehicle for the group.
• Assist distributor Energy System Specialists in performing Steam Trap Assessments. Work with them to create a standard format for customer report. Act as their point person within SEA.
• Learn the process of responding to customer requests for quotations for customized training and in-plant audits. Work on those customer proposals assigned by the Technical Director.
• Engage in a continuous learning process. Continually increase knowledge of steam system components and steam system operation.
• Establish a schedule for chargeability with the Technical Director at the outset of the assignment. This schedule will detail the percentage of chargeable time that the candidate should achieve as a function of their learning and experiences. The candidate is expected to monitor this figure and ensure his learnings enable him to achieve the target figures.
• Identify opportunities to specify Swagelok products as solutions to problems identified as part of in-plant assessments. Assist customers in procuring Swagelok products. Work with internal Swagelok associates to ensure product availability to meet demand.
• Promote Swagelok Energy Advisors through the publishing of technical articles and presentations at technical conferences. Contribute to the identification and creation of the strategy for SEA participation in trade shows, technical conferences and industry trade groups in conjunction with the Technical Director.
• Provide major contribution to the annual planning for SEA and accept responsibility for assigned sections of the plan. Identify areas of potential growth and missed opportunities.
• In conjunction with the Technical Director monitor, on a monthly basis, the financial performance of the group and make adjustments as necessary to adhere to the financial forecast.
Education:
BSME, BSChE, BSEE, BSIE preferred. 2 year engineering associate degree minimum.
Experience:
5+ years of industry experience. Minimum of 18 months working as SAE Field Engineer, or equivalent experience from previous work. Knowledge of steam system operation preferred, knowledge of Swagelok products which service steam operations preferred, experience working in an operating industrial facility is also preferred.
Skills:
Skilled in interpreting P&ID diagrams and conducting site surveys of fluid systems. Must have strong computer skills. Excellent communication skills a must, both oral and written. Must be competent to perform in role as trainer of technical material. Must demonstrate a strong willingness to learn new subject matter.
