We are selecting a coal mill type for our new power plant 2 x 660MW

Hope someone have comparison of the two types of coal mills in terms of the following,

~ performance sensitivity on coal properties HGI, ash content, moisture content, etc.
      ~ maintenance cost
      ~ auxiliary power consumption
      ~ capital cost
~ which is more common for 660MW range power plant?

Except working principle of the two, I cannot find any comparison on performace between the two.

      Roger

I think these are both good millers. I tend to think of them as roller mills and each has a subcategory to ID their fine points. I have a broachure for a Riley Power -RPI- MPS roller mill -a Babcock Power company. A bowl type as I remember is a product of CE Combustion Engineering which I think is Alstrom Power.

        Hi Ross and all,

Any information about a type of mill called HP mill? The HP mill is what the engineering consultant recommend for our new 2 x 600MW project.

I cannot find any information about HP mill? is it actually Bowl type mill?

The information is likely to be available only with the User , the utility owners.Better try some friendly sources.
I think the Ball mill or the Tuibe Mills are the present trend in High capacity plants like 500 MW and above for various reasons.

Most of our plant use ball mill and MPS mills indeed.

          Hi Jim and Mr. Watts,

Thanks for the information and the effort making me able to download the document.

One more thing, one text book told me that, for bowl mill, the PA fan is located between the mill and the burner. In other word, the PA fan pull PF/Air mixture out of the mill and deliver it to the burner, so the mill is in negative pressure operation.

Is it always the case that, for bowl mill, the PA fan is at the gas downstream of the mill and it needs to handle PF/Air mixture?

A positive draft seems about right for about 3 quarters of the fan air is recirculated -maybe a little bit more- and a quarter is used as primary air. If you have a cyclone burner then a lot of moving air is needed.

The attached info on HP mills will answer your PA fan question as it can be upstream or down and also will give you confidence in the recommendation of HP mill
