On the hrsg there are 3 drums the hp,ip,LP,where does the steam from the ip and LP drums get used?Im thinking steam injection for nox and feedwatwer heating .thank you

The application of a 3 drum HRSG tends to be applied to power generation. In power generation the 3 drum HRSG boiler with three pressures are HP, IP and LP are used for the HP Steam Turbine, the IP Steam Turbine, and on the LP pressure level the steam from the LP superheater respectively. Also a reheater might be squeezed up by the HP superheater.

Of course waste steam, which is used more than once, would be used for feedwater heating or other uses as you asked about in a combined cycle with combustion turbines like a 2x1 arrangement. The usage for these are very small in comparison to a large combined cycle facility that has say two 2x1 units whose primary purpose is to produce electricity.

The selection of a HRSG is based on pinch-points or pinch-analysis to see what available energy rate that can be effectively deployed based on the combustion turbine exhaust, which has a temperature of around 1000F or higher depending on size and whether aeroderivative or a low speed large frame -big- combustion turbine, in to the HRSG, which the HRSG is a counter-flow heat exchanger when compared to the hot gases from the combustion turbine that pass through the HRSG in the opposite direction. We try to get our pinch-points or delta-tees around 20F to say 50F to maximize heat transfer. There are a small handful of other considerations, but by far this is the biggest.

Mr. John:

I imagine you have already read and understood the explanations given by Mr. Ross, so I would just add something that normally puzzles my students, in that in combined cycles the steam flow in the turbines is ever increasing, so the IP turbine receives both the HP steam exited from the HP turbine, after reheating, plus the IP drum steam, this, superheated, and then, to the LP turbine will flow the steam output from the IP turbine, plus the steam generated in the LP drum, this last with a slight superheat to match the steam conditions of the IP exiting steam.

The reason for doing this was also explained by Mr. Ross, in that the enthalpy of the heat source is limited as compared to conventional boilers, and ingenuity devised the possibility of generating an extra amount of steam at lower pressures and temperatures say, 40 bar IP and 5-6 bar LP with gases still warm enough for this, after having been cooled down in the superheaters and the HP section of the HRSG at some 150 bar.

High Sulfite Residual
By: Ross. [390]

First, I want to say that large amounts of Sodium Sulfite NaSO3 becomes a contaminate because it will produce foaming and other problems, but foaming is the primary problem.

Your 500-psi Water Tube Boiler is seems to have reasonable level of residual Sodium Sulfite NaSO3 remaining in the boiler water. Nice pH too.

Your 300-psi Waste Heat Recovery Boiler has twice what I would expect for Sodium Sulfite NaSO3 at ranging 80-ppm to 100-ppm. pH is good so you are getting a good yield.
