Does anyone know that company makes these air screens or air curtains? Designed to create local negative pressure around the window, where the boilers still works under positive pressure.
Any knowledge of who makes them?

Those items come from the boiler manufacturer and are made by the boiler manufacturer as a rule.

With that said, I wish to clarify that the little air tubes going to the observation ports is at a higher pressure than the furnace or firebox and not at a negative pressure.

The source of the air is normally from the windbox and the reason for the air is to keep the observation port clear and cool.

Murphy, thanks.
Practically we feel negative pressure through these ports when we perform on-line dry chemical cleaning, while the boiler itself still operates under positive pressure.
Not all boiler manufacturers make them, do you know anyone specifically who makes it?

Okay, the slight negative pressure is probably attributed to a low firing rate. Today, smaller boilers like the one depicted or provided in your posting may have bigger burner turn downs and consequently a slight negative draft at time to do your business.

I dont know of anyone who makes and installs these, and the boiler makers are the most likely people to ask since they weld the port through the casing. These come with the boiler when installed. The observation port with glass and flapper valve is likely purchased, but I dont know who. The cooling air piping from the windbox to the observation port is anything that is available like electrical conduit tubing which works well enough. It has been a long time since I saw a shut off valve on an observation port air cooling tubing let along 2 shut off valves.

I stand corrected. I saw a buckstay so I am expecting this to be a larger water tube boiler that is field erected. The negative draft is from the a balanced draft firing rate, which means they are likely burning a solid fuel. The ID Fan is pulling a large amount of air to pushing it out the chimney or stack. So, the double valve arrangement is not so uncommon a larger boilers.

The viewing port has two air supplies.
One from the FD fan upstream of the air heater to keep the glass cool and a draft twoards the furnace to keep it clean.
The second supply is from a compressed air source but it is normally closed. It has a valve often interlocked to open when viewing that supplies a ring of nozzles directing the air into the furnace in such a way that the glass can be opened for cleaning or replacement. The port is under vacuum on the viewing side when in this mode but the furnace remains under pressure.

Looking closely at the picture I see that this has only one line which must be compressed air but has two routes to the port . one will be restricted to cooling flow and the other to the vacuum forming nozzles requiring high flow.

The two sources are used on large boilers with many ports and the cost of compressed air justifies the extra piping from FDFan.

You have excellent eye sight! I forgot about compressed air. Thanks for pointing those out.

Is Cp/Cv applicable to steam to calculate?
By: Kent mayhew [2161]

The reason that isobaric Cp heat capacity is greater than isometric Cv is that isobaric involves expansion. Remember our atmosphere has mass, so in order for a system to expand it must displace that mass. And this requires work. So Cp requires work plus the energy to heat the gas , while Cv only requires the energy to heat.

So for all gases and/or steam the work required to expand a given volume is the same that being the work required to displace our atmosphere by a given volume.
