I want to know that why deaerator is pressurized. In my plant it is pressurized to 2.5 kg/cm2. what will happen if we pressurize it to 1.5 kg/cm2. Please give your inputs

the needs of pressure in De-aerator mean we need heating in it up to wanted temperature, this mean pressure of 2.5 bar gives 138 dC and 1.5 bar gives 127dC, so the needs of heating causes the needs of pressure.
of course feed tank with its De-aerator has to work as heat ex-changer in the series of heat ex-changers, for this reason its water temperature must be more than previous heater and less than next heater, so it is calculated then it gives you the required pressure.

Mr. Pradeep:

I am sure you realize that the deareator must be pressurized so that the separated air and non condensable gases may exit the system by themselves without needing some sort of ejectors or vacuum pumps as is the case in condensers what Mr Belal has stated is a most sensible warning in order that you check the whole chain of preheaters to avid unbalancing it in case you need to change the working pressure of the deaerator.

Dearation of the water in a dearator requires two functions to be carried out.
1 The water must be brought to boiling point which causes dissolved gas to be released.
2 The released gas must be scrubbed away from the water or its pressure will increase and redissolve.

This can be arranged at any pressure and is often carried out at a changing pressure in steam supplied from turbine bled steam which changes with load.

Boiling the water is the simplest function by mixing steam.
Scrubbing is more complicated and is the trick you have to worry about.

The dearator steam used to heat the water is also the steam that carries out the scrubbing and must be minimum flow ratio with the water flow. It is this fact that sets the dearator pressure because the steam flow is dependent on the feed water temperature. If the feed water is too hot the dearator will not need much steam to reach boiling and the scrubber will not work.
A dearator needs around 25 degrees difference between feed and saturation temperature.

As your dearator is at 2.5 Kg/cm2 it is above the pressure selected to simplify venting and must be higher due to high feed temperature. If its not you can reduce pressure .

Amount of air that can be dissolved in water - decreases with temperature and increases with pressure. So, pressurizing deaerator for eliminating dissolved air is counter-intuitive. Therefore, the reasoning should be in thermodynamic heat-balance and NPSH calculation of the Boiler Feed Pumps.

First, I want to say that large amounts of Sodium Sulfite NaSO3 becomes a contaminate because it will produce foaming and other problems, but foaming is the primary problem.

Your 500-psi Water Tube Boiler is seems to have reasonable level of residual Sodium Sulfite NaSO3 remaining in the boiler water. Nice pH too.

Your 300-psi Waste Heat Recovery Boiler has twice what I would expect for Sodium Sulfite NaSO3 at ranging 80-ppm to 100-ppm. pH is good so you are getting a good yield.
